If you have a problem with your teeth, your regular dentist can likely take care of it. There are some problems, however, you may want to consider going to a cosmetic dentist for. Once you arrive, you may learn of all the services they can offer you, three of which are listed below.

Enamel Shaping

If you have chips in your teeth, a cosmetic dentist can use a procedure called enamel shaping to repair the chips for you. The procedure is simple, and it can be performed by your cosmetic dentist easily and quickly. If the chips are minimal, the dentist can likely take care of the problem in only one visit.

The cosmetic dentist will use a special tool to remove and contour the enamel surfaces of your teeth. They will only remove a very thin piece of enamel. After contouring, the dentist will smooth the teeth using a polishing disc. The dentist may take an x-ray of your teeth before the procedure to see how much enamel you have so they will not remove too much.

In many cases, a fluoride varnish is brushed onto your teeth after the procedure is finished. This varnish is important, as this will seal exposed tubules that may be on the teeth. This will prevent any sensitivity or tooth decay in the future.

Dental Bridges

If you have a missing tooth and do not have it repaired, your other teeth will shift to fill up this empty space, and this will result in crooked teeth. To keep this from happening, a cosmetic dentist can use a procedure called dental bridges.

The dentist will first place an artificial tooth in the space of your missing tooth. A dental bridge will be used to hold the artificial tooth in place. To do this procedure, a crown is placed on the teeth on either side of the space. A bridge will only last a few years, so it is not a permanent solution to this problem.

Dental Veneers

A dental veneer, also called a porcelain veneer, is another option for closing gaps in your teeth. The main difference with this is it is a permanent solution. A dental veneer covers the surface of the tooth. The veneer is bonded to the front of your teeth and can change the length, size, shape, and color of your teeth. The veneers are custom-made to fit your teeth.

Porcelain veneers resist stains and look much like your natural teeth. If someone were talking to you, they would likely not even notice a difference in the veneer compared to your other teeth.

Talk with a cosmetic dentist about these and other procedures they offer, as a cosmetic dentist can give you much more information about them.
