If you have dental braces, the wires will trap bits of food that may encourage a bacterial attack on your teeth if you don't get rid of them. You may need to brush after eating irrespective of your location, which means you should learn how to brush in public restrooms. Here are a few tips to employ when you find yourself in such a situation:

Opt For Semi-Private Restrooms

Semi private restrooms each have a stall and a sink with a lockable door. These offer you a level of privacy that you may not be able to enjoy in the truly public restrooms. That way you can take care of your teeth without worrying about prying eyes. If you have patronized many public restrooms before, then you may also have realized that the semi private ones tend to be cleaner than the utterly public ones.

Try Restaurant Restrooms

Restaurants tend to have cleaner restrooms than other places, such as gas stations. In fact, the cleaner the restaurant, the cleaner its restrooms are likely to be. This is not surprising because restaurants deal with food, and any place that deals in food is expected to be utterly clean. In fact, having dirty restrooms is one way in which restaurants can lose business. Apart from that, it's easy for a restaurant to be shut down if its facilities pose some health hazard. Therefore, if there is a restaurant nearby, you have a good chance of enjoying a clean restroom.

Arm Yourself with Foundation Paper

Even if a public restroom looks hygienic, you probably won't (and shouldn't) trust it to the point where you can let your hygiene materials touch it. Therefore, arm yourself with some materials (tissue paper works great) you can use as a foundation on which to place your materials and equipment as you go about your business.

Go About Your Business Nonchalantly

Lastly, you should be as discrete as you can, but you shouldn't worry too much about other people's concerns. There will be a few stares if any, but you don't need to be apologetic about cleaning your teeth. Just go about your business nonchalantly and you won't have anything to worry about.

Regularly brushing and flossing is important at all times; it's even more important if you have orthodontics in your mouth. Hopefully, the tips above will help you ensure that your mouth is always clean despite your orthodontic treatment. Consult your dentist if you are having any problems with your braces.
